In March 2022, we carried out a medical mission in Tanzania. This time to San Pio Hospital in Maganzo, two projects went : the gynaecology-obstetrics project Doctor Baby and the neonatology-pediatrics project Doctor Newborn. The participants in the project Doctor Baby were Prof. Robert Jach, Dr. Karolina Zeman and student Paulina Pietrzyk. During this two-week mission, the team performed more than 150 specialist consultations and about 12 procedures. Once again, infertility was the most common problem patients presented with. The participants of the project Doctor Newborn were doctors. Katarzyna Starzec and Dominika Kondyjowska. The team performed more than 80 specialist consultations and around 40 ultrasound examinations. During the entire stay in Maganzo, up to six premature babies were under the care of the doctors. In addition to providing assistance in the form of specialist consultations, the mission participants conducted numerous training sessions for the staff of the health centre. Training topics included the menstrual cycle, diagnosis and treatment of infertility, neonatal resuscitation and life-threatening ultrasound. We were delighted to see that the training we have provided in previous missions has not gone to waste, but is bearing fruit in the form of clinical skills development for the hospital staff, resulting in a higher level of health services provided. Our volunteers worked both on the ward and in the outpatient clinics, but in between they also carried out the project Doctor Smile, whose main aim was to bring smiles to the youngest . During the mission, the volunteers visited, among others, an orphanage run by Mama Sara and a nursery school run by Sister Monica.
This is what we wrote 18 months ago. We are coming back with memories. And it was on another mission to Maganzo that the two projects, , set off in October 2023DrBaby and DrNewborn. With a slightly changed composition, but just as committed and with the same goal. It is extremely encouraging to be able to continue our work and to work further with the staff on the ground to improve the quality of healthcare in the surrounding communities. Thank you all for your support.
