Improving quality of life through the expansion and modernisation of a hospital in Maganzo, Tanzania

Maganzo is a small African village in the bush of Tanzania. Its area has poor soil and the inhabitants only have employment opportunities in the primitive gold mines. In addition, they face tropical diseases such as malaria, typhoid and amoeba. The spread of HIV is also a serious problem. Tanzania is the seventh country in the world with the highest number of 1.5 million people infected with the virus.
In response to these challenges, the Centre for Medical Charity Foundation from Krakow is implementing a project entitled 'Improving Health in Tanzania'. The implementers focused on improving the quality of life of the population by expanding and modernising the hospital in Maganzo. The previous medical facilities were inadequate and the demand for medical care was steadily increasing. As a result, it was decided to expand the children's ward. Hearing screening equipment for children and newborns was also purchased. Failure to carry out a hearing test in the early years of childhood and the lack of treatment of a hearing defect is associated with serious consequences, which are stunted or delayed speech development, affecting the child's further general development. In addition, training sessions organised by were held Doctors Africa to improve the skills of local medical professionals and introduce modern treatment methods. The implementers also took care of climate protection through the use of renewable energy sources. A solar power system was purchased for the hospital to provide an independent source of energy, as well as water tanks to collect rainwater for use in the dry season.
These measures residents have given better access to medical care. The project's initial objectives were to increase the number of patients to 16 000 per year. Maganzo However, according to data obtained from the San Pio hospital Health Centre , they have already provided assistance and medical services to 25,072 people in 2022.
